Welcoming International Students

Canada’s polytechnics are recognized internationally for their expertise and innovation in advanced technical education and skills training.  International students are an increasing proportion of the learners on polytechnic campuses, with 108,000 international students enrolled in the 2021-22 academic year.  Canadian learners have opportunities to benefit from international student exchange programs during the course of their studies and many graduates go on to further studies at international institutions.

SAIT Capstone Project Turned International Partnership

Through a study abroad program, SAIT students can help construct houses in an Indigenous village in Guatemala, alongside the local family who will live in it when complete.  The program is a result of a capstone project that saw two students convert a building into a technical school.  The pair reached out to a local non-government organization to fulfill their quest to design an international capstone project.  This relationship resulted in a study abroad program that continues to grow.  Learn more about the experience

Fanshawe Partnership with Institute of Technology Sligo

Fanshawe’s partnership with the Institute of Technology Sligo in Ireland has led to numerous collaborative research projects and international student exchange programs.  One research project looked at the medicinal use of honey and concrete additives and has developed SurgihoneyRO, a honey product produced in Ireland that is a low-cost alternative to harsh antiseptics used to treat wounds, sore throats, burns and more.  Read more about this research project
